History of Galactus

The Inbetweener - Silver Surfer Vol. 3, No. 18
In a previous conflict with some of the Elders of the Universe, Galactus had swallowed some of them (by converting them to energy and devouring it) and trapped others in a black hole. Those trapped in the black hole found that it was a gateway to the realm of Lord Chaos, Master Order, and the Inbetweener. They were able to contact the Inbetweener, who agreed to transport them from the black hole and to destroy Galactus.
The Inbetweener is akin to a force of nature and normally wouldn't be swayed by the supplication of other beings. However, he felt that Galactus' function was similar to his – the Inbetweener balances the extremes of chaos and order, while Galactus appears to balance Death and Eternity – and thus he felt compelled to destroy the World Devourer to prevent him from usurping his power.
As they fought, each seemed unable to destroy the other, and this epic struggle between two of the most powerful cosmic entities in the Universe soon degenerated into a fist fight. Finally, the Inbetweener maneuvered the clash so that their momentum would carry them back through the black hole to his home realm, where he thought he would gain the upper hand. Unfortunately, Lord Chaos and Master Order were displeased that their servant was straying from his intended purpose, so they apparently destroyed him.

Comments: This was a great battle between two virtual equals, and any fight that Galactus wins is always welcome. There was also a lot of interesting discussion between Galactus and the Inbetweener concerning their respective natures and purposes.
