The saga of Rokugan began with the fall of the Hantei dynasty. Lingering at the edge of death, the Emperor sought an honorable samurai to become the Imperial heir. Now the saga continues with the release of Shadowlands. The plots of the six Great Clans unfold and the families reveal their strategies. The Crab find new allies from the outskirts of the Empire, while the political machinations of the Crane become more desperate. The stoic Lion clan remains resolute in its support of the dying Emperor while the Phoenix have unearthed forgotten and dangerous magics. The Clan of the Unicorn discovers that it must face the horrors of the Shadowlands alone, while the enigmatic Dragon Clan retreats further into thier mountain strongholds.

Word travels to the houses of the Clans that the Naga, long rumored to have been mere legend, have sent an emissary to the emperor to unify the warring clans. And in the court of the emperor, the remnants of the fallen scorpion clan plot a revenge that will bring the empire into an eternity of darkness.
