Five months have passed since the war began, and there is no sign of peace. The Six Clans of the Emerald Empire have all paid the price for turning against each other. Armies of gibbering dead men march against the Clans, gaining victory after victory, turning their victims into mad, mindless slaves. The only hope for the Empire lies in an ancient race of serpent folk know as the Naga. They have come to Rokugan for a single purpose: to stop the Shadowlands, even if it means the destruction of the Emerald Empire. But while the Clans turn their concerns to their borders, another evil is brewing inside the Empire. The Clan of the Scorpion, thought to have been destroyed by the Emperor, have gathered their strength and are ready once again to try and take the Emerald Throne.
