Soldiers of the Empire,
This will be my last missive, as the ranks behind us begin to close with oni and ogres of the Southlands. Know that if we do not return, we have died well, in the service of the Empire and the Emperor. To die for the Emperor's life is all we have ever wanted.
Some do not believe in our mission, but still they march beside me in the dark fields of the South, and still they raise their banners beside my own. As one, we will lead the Empire to Volturnum, or we will die in the attempt.
If Toturi still lived, he would have wished to march with us. In his stead, I must take that responsibility. You may not trust me; your eyes show a disrespect of which you do not speak.
I cannot justify myself in your eyes except to prove my honor with courage as my father did before me. I can only promise one thing to those who follow the banner of Toturi and the Empire: If you march with me, you will not die alone.
