Chen-san,
I wish that your father could be with us to see the majesty of the Unicorn Clan. He was an honorable and virtuous man who thought only of his family, his clan, and the Khan. I know he would be proud of all that you have accomplished as Chagatai-sama’s general. I know that he looks upon us now with joy as we begin what will no doubt become the most prosperous and glorious period in our clan’s history.
At the Khan’s behest, I have just finished an extensive negotiation with a notable Scorpion ambassador who spoke for perhaps the only man in the Empire more ambitious than Chagatai himself. Now that man stands as an ally of the Unicorn, an ally that will make the Unicorn the most powerful of all the Great Clans.
Khan Chagatai has decreed that all must pay tribute to our new allies. Therefore, you are commanded to take your forces and occupy the great Seikitsu Pass. Those not of our clan who do not offer a tithe must be turned away. Any armed troops attempting to move through the pass must swear an alliance with our clan, or be turned away. Those who challenge our possession of the Pass must be destroyed. Other allies shall patrol other avenues through the Empire, but they have recognized that the Pass is our rightful property and that none other has the sovereign right to claim it.
The Khan’s plan hinges upon our successful occupation of the Pass. This duty has fallen to you, Chen, because you have time and time again proven your honor and devotion to the Khan. Success will mean our undisputed reign at the side of a true emperor. Failure will result in the disgrace of the entire clan.
I know that we have chosen the right man for this job. Your father looks on from the fields of Yomi with pride.
