Unicorn Clan Letter

Genki-chan,

Forgive me for not writing to you sooner, beloved, but the opportunities to do so have been few and far between of late. As you have no doubt heard, I have been ordered to move most of the Junghar northeast, away from the Shinomen and closer to the battle front where the Khan and his Khol face the Lion near the City of the Rich Frog. I have left Chaozhu in command of the forces near the forest. He is angry, anxious to participate in the fighting, but submitted to his duty once I made it clear that I would not be swayed. I do not trust him, but I know that our friend within the forest keeps a close eye upon him, and anything that happens will only happen if Chen and Akasha allow it. In them, at least, I have faith.

We have heard many reports from the front. It seems that the fighting is fierce beyond all expectations. I can only imagine the incredible spectacle that is the two greatest armies in the Empire coming together on the battlefield. In my youth, perhaps, I would have stomped my feet in anticipation of such a glorious war. Age has mellowed me, it seems, for though I long to fulfill my Khan's orders, I have no wish to kill. I have seen to much death, and hope that there might be a better way to settle our differences with the Lion.

I was surprised recently to receive a message from the Righteous Emperor, Toturi III. It seems that Naseru has not forgotten our adventures in the City of Night, and is deeply concerned by this war that has erupted between Unicorn and Lion. He has asked for my advice in how to resolve this matter, as well as my discretion as he knows the Khan is not a man who easily retreats from conflict. I know that he can rely upon you as he relies up on me - should you learn of any information that might allow this war to be ended please inform me immediately, so that we might aid our Emperor, and a man who I am proud to call my friend.

Rest assured that I shall return to you as soon as we are relieved of our duties on the front, Genki-chan. I have been gone too long. I dream of you and of our beautiful daughter. Hold her close for me, and know that I will be soon be home.

Shinjo Shono
