Timeline for Recent Conflicts

Month of the Rooster, 1167 (Fall)
The Lion march against the Dragon in retribution for the slight to their honor during the War of the Rich Frog. The conflict is largely skirmishes, with no major engagements. Attacking the mountains with a large force proves difficult, because the Lion cannot attack the Dragonfly Clan without incurring the wrath of Isawa Sezaru.

Month of the Tiger, 1167 (Late Winter/Early Spring)
A group of Dragon nemuranai hunters, operating in Crane provinces without authorization, inadvertently discover a cache of weapons and gunpowder hidden by harriers in case of conflict with the Lion. A group of harriers are in the area, and attempt to kill the Dragon to conceal their secret. During the fighting, the gunpowder detonates, and only a single combatant on each side survives, both seriously wounded.

Month of the Hare, 1168 (Spring)
Daidoji Shihei recovers and arrives in Toshi Ranbo, where Doji Ran brings him before Asahina Keitaro. Concerned that the Dragon are seeking the Anvil of Despair, Keitaro suspects that they may investigate the Crane holdings in the Imperial City, and so moves his captive, Daigotsu Rekai, out of the capital and into Kosaten Shiro to avoid the Dragon. Simultaneously, the wounded Dragon survivor tells Mirumoto Rosanjin what happened before perishing from his wounds.

Month of the Dragon, 1168 (Spring)
The Khan, intent on reaching the Imperial City to lend his support to the Shogun occupation there, deploys a small expeditionary force of a few dozen samurai to find a safe path through the fighting. A combination of navigational errors and detours to avoid Lion encampments results in the force crossing the Lion border. There, they are discovered and destroyed by patrols led by Ikoma Fujimaro and Matsu Yoshino. Fearing the Khan will mount a second, larger offensive, Otemi withdraws the Matsu and Ikoma from the Dragon conflict and fortifies the Lion border near Kaeru Toshi. The Akodo are tasked with maintaining the security of the Dragon border, and begin reinforcing their front line south of Dragonfly lands.

Month of the Dragon, 1168 (Spring)
Mirumoto Mareshi and Imperial Magistrate Mirumoto Narumi arrive at Kosaten Shiro and present papers demanding to search for gunpowder. A panicked Asahina Keitaro attempts to kill them and destroy their papers, fearing they will discover his prisoner Daigotsu Rekai in the basement. The attempt fails, and Mareshi summons his forces, surprising the guard and laying waste to the fortress. Rekai escapes in the confusion.

Month of the Dragon, 1168 (Spring)
Mareshi sends Mirumoto Kei back to report that Kosaten Shiro has fallen, then pulls his forces back to the southern Dragon Heart Plain to await further orders.

Month of the Horse, 1168 (Summer)
Word of the siege at Kosaten Shiro reaches the Lion lands. Angered at the attack on their allies, Akodo daimyo Akodo Shigetoshi takes personal command of the northern border, with Ikoma Otemi's blessing, and begins moving his forces north, cutting Mareshi and his forces off from the Dragon lands. Shigetoshi halts re-supply attempts, but the Dragon allies in Nanashi Mura keep the Dragon supplied for the time being.

Month of the Goat, 1168 (Summer)
Massive fighting between Mareshi forces and the Daidoji sent to punish them takes place throughout the sparsely populated plains, including a battle near the village of Nanashi Mura, where the Wolf Legion and Eye of Nanashi stand ready to defend the city.

Month of the Goat, 1168 (Summer)
Mareshi and Kei engage the Crane outside Nanashi Mura and are victorious, but cannot capitalize on the gained ground due to the impending arrival of the Akodo army.

Month of the Goat, 1168 (Summer)
The Khan, furious over the Lion continued denial of his travel routes, launches a second force to reach the Imperial City. This force, while larger, is still relatively small and designed for speed and mobility. The Khan's maneuver is anticipated by Otemi, however, and Yoshino moves to intercept with a large number of Matsu bushi. The Khan forces are defeated, and Otemi declares that Matsu Yoshino has earned his father blade. Yoshino takes his place as Lion Champion, and Otemi becomes his general and chief tactical advisor.

Month of the Monkey, 1168 (Late Summer)
The Akodo forces separating the Dragon from the mountains withdraw back to their front line at the Dragonfly provinces when news of a second attack by the Unicorn on the western Lion border arrives. This opens up the path for Mareshi forces to return home. The Dragon return to the mountains, followed by the Crane army.

Month of the Monkey, 1168 (Late Summer)
The Dragon push the Crane back to Dragonfly River, near the Tonbo province, but when the Crane are joined by reinforcements dispatched from Akodo Shigetoshi forces, they cannot hold the ground, and are forced to pull back to Shiro Kitsuki.
